believe you me ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ McCool’s Ice Creamery. It’d been the spot to be for as long as Rie could remember. When he was really little, he remembered mom taking him there. He’d get rocky road ice cream with hot fudge and gummy bears on top. Dad would grumble and say something about dentist bills, but with his arm around mom, everything was okay, and Rie was free to eat his ice cream in peace. Mom’s smile made him think of ice cream still when he thought about it; strawberry ice cream- that was her favorite. He tried to push these thoughts out of his mind as he approached the creamery, his hands shoved into his pockets; his right hand jingled three dollars and twenty seven cents of change beneath the twenty dollar bill wedged between the fabric. As Rie pushed the door open he thought about the orders he had taken before leaving home. The girls always pestered him when he left the house and they were still awake. They wanted to know where he was going, how long would he be gone, was he going to see someone, was he going to bring anything back for them? And he didn’t like to leave them without at least some answers; things were already uncertain enough for them at home. He told them he was going to get some ice cream with a friend and he’d bring them each back something if they promised to stay and play quietly in their room (they all shared what was his old room, the second largest bedroom in the house). So what were the orders again? His face pulled into a frown as he pondered this. Whitley. Chocolate chip cookie dough with hot fudge and sprinkles. Yes, his eldest little sister loved cookie dough, and rainbow sprinkles, not the chocolate ones, she’d specified. Rie supposed there was enough chocolate in her order anyway. Taylor. Mint chocolate chip with gummy worms, not bears (apparently they tasted different to her). Beatrice. The pink stuff. That’s what she’d said. If Rie had left without asking for Taylor’s input on this he would have no clue what to get her. But according to Taylor, the pink stuff meant cotton candy ice cream. He would have gotten strawberry. Strawberry wasn’t pink stuff, Taylor informed him. Strawberry was strawberry. Duh. Rie took a seat at one of the many, many empty tables in the ice cream store. Business was slowing; it had been slowing for a while now. Maybe it was the economy? Maybe people had lost their appreciation for the art of ice creamery? Maybe people were lazy and just got their ice cream at the grocery store when they bought the rest of their junk food. There were many possibilities. But Rie wasn’t thinking about any of this stuff; he sat at the table and pushed his hand through his hair, wondering how long it would take the new girl to maneuver her way from her home to the ice cream place. It took him about ten minutes to walk from his house; he looked at his watch. 7:54, the digital face glowed a fluorescent green against the dark grey gleam of the watchband. It’d taken him eleven minutes, actually. But who was counting? There was time. ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ post; done. tag; lily julia vargas. words; 545. graphics; squishy. lyrics; all time low. notes; mm mint chocolate chip. ^^

-----------------------
lily hadn't expected for rie to invite her out for ice cream. of course, she understood his subtle little hints, but she didn't really mention them or exagerate them anymore. she didn't want to be a tease, to make him think he had gotten so far just to knock him back down again. especially with her situation, and she was pretty sure he wasn't a virgin too. he just didn't seem like it.
although she hated turning her little brother down, when he had come bounding toward her, begging for lily to try and beat him on the xbox. in fact, she'd almost given in at the sight of his little eyes staring up at her, his lip beginning to wobble when he realised his big sister was leaving him for the night. ok, maybe not the night. for all she knew, rie could have decided not to turn up, in which case she'd be back pretty soon. it only took her about twenty minutes to get to mccool's ice creamery. so afer a quick cuddle with the little boy, she started on her way.
luckily for her, there wasn't rain crashing down on her head, and there was no huge sun beating down on her face. she'd had enough of major heat, and with a few thunderstorms recently she was sick of those too. so she hadn't spent hours searching for clothes. just some tight fitting jeans and a long top was all she needed now. anyway, she didn't need to dress up for the occasion, ice cream with a new friend was hardly romantic. however, she was wearing heals. lily was so short, she had a million pairs. well, maybe not literally. she was half way there when she felt a shiver go down her back, it was only now that she noticed the breeze passing through the streets. her house and garden were pretty well closed off, a fence around the garden protecting it from viscious gales. so now she was on the open roads she could feel the cold biting at her skin, and she wished she had brought a jacket with her. but if she turned back now, she'd be so late to meet rie. hardly a good first impression.
lily was late, despite not turning back. but she didn't feel guilty, it was only five minutes anyway. plus, she didn't know rie so wasn't too desperate to see him, nor did she want to turn up extremely late. but then again, if she didn't know him she had no idea how he would react. she knew many people back in new york, who would go mental if someone was five minutes late to meet them, what if he was the same? hmm, lily was sure she'd be able to cope and put him in his place. as she walked in, she spotted someone who looked remarkably like rie's display picture sat at one of the tables, he wasn't hard to spot - there wasn't many people sat in there with him. it was fortunate that lily had no problems with confidence, as she happily walked over to his table, slidding into the seat opposite him. looking up at him with a smile she spoke, "hey.

believe you me ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ There was a list of ice cream flavors on a long, slim, laminated piece of paper lying on the table Rie sat down at. He picked it up, sucking his teeth and glancing out the front window before his eyes fell to the flavors. Vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, oreo cookies ‘n cream, chocolate chip, pralines ‘n cream, very berry strawberry, chocolate chip cookie dough, the list went on and on. Rie looked up again. Nothing. His seat had been chosen purposefully, strategically. Facing the window meant he’d see anyone who approached, and should someone come in who might possibly ruin the night for him completely, he’d bust out of the place before Lily could get there. It would be far worse for an ex to join them on their ice cream outing than for him to have to explain why he stood her up. My little sister got sick, my dad grounded me for staying out too late the other night, my internet connection died and I realized I had a five page paper to write due the next day… the list of excuses he could come up was as plentiful as the list of ice creams at McCool’s. However, there was no need for him to worry; no one of any importance entered the ice creamery before Lily showed up. Some guy did come in with his little girl and her whole soccer team it seemed. Rie listened to the girls happy squeals and their indecisive and oh so important choices of ice cream. The lady behind the counter was quickly exhausted. Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate. No, vanilla. No, chocolate. Cone or cup? Cone. Waffle or sugar cone? Umm… He was staring at the ‘menu’ wondering who ate black walnut ice cream, when he heard the ding of the door opening. Somehow that wasn’t enough to snap him out of his black walnut bewilderment. Really, who went to the ice cream store thinking about walnuts? He’d always thought Praline ‘n cream was weird… he still didn’t even know what Praline was… was that a nut? But black walnut- this one took the prize for lamest ice cream ever. He heard someone sliding into the seat ahead of him, and his eyes flickered upward. His signature smile began to spread across his face as she said her, ”hey.” Short and sweet. A lot like she was, Rie thought. Her profile picture on the computer didn’t do her justice, he decided, admiring her without staring. He didn’t need to, he’d gotten used to looking away from a girl without removing her image from his mind. He laid the ice cream list flat on the table. His crooked smile fully bloomed, he replied, ”Well hello, lady Lily. Hope I didn’t make you walk too far.” Very smoothly Rie was transitioning to a simple subject that could help him figure out a whole lot about this girl, like the area she lived in. Since he wasn’t lying when he said he knew the town like the back of his hand, he could pretty much pinpoint in his mind where her house might be just by her telling him about how much she walked. Rie was good with directions, geographically, at least. ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ post; done. tag; lily julia vargas. words; 539. graphics; squishy. lyrics; all time low. notes; not short. lily was already planning what she would order. seeing as he had offered to pay, she was tempted to pick the most expeinsive things on the menu, just to see him squirm under the pressure. but she wasn't that mean, not mean at all. in fact, she'd brought a few dollers with her just in case he didn't have enough money to pay for the pair of them. but she hoped he would have the money, after all he had offered to pay so he should stick to his word.
yuuuuuummy. lily had decided. she wanted chocolate ice cream, nothing too special, just chocolate. chocolate sauce, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate everything. when she had been to the ice cream place with her little brother, she hadn't ordered anything and he had just got the same thing he always got. vanilla ice cream with bubblegum sauce and two wafers. in fact, it became apparent to lily that she would have to decide what she wanted when she got there, for all she knew they could have moonrock flavour ice cream. what would moonrock taste like? were there rocks on the moon?
luckily, lily snapped out of her moon rock fasinaction just metres before she entered mccool's ice creamery, otherwise she would have walked straight into the doors that seperated the chilling outside to the oddly warm interior.
she was glad that he was in a easy to spot place, seeing as she was freezing cold outside it wasn't surprising that she just wanted to sit down on a nice warm seat. it didn't really occur to her that she was going to be eatin ice cream, something cold anyway.
"well hello, lady lily. hope i didn’t make you walk too far.
" he said it with a smile, not a perfect straight model smile, but it was beautiful. for him anyway. she laughed lightly and shook her head, " no, don't worry sir rie." she grinned, " only took me what, twenty minutes? i just wish i'd brought a jumper or sweater or something." she said, clinging her arms around her body to show she was cold, but not adding a 'brr' just in case that was a bit over the top. he'd get the picture anyway, she thought. she pulled the menu away from him, to have a look herself. taking only a quick glance up at him to see his reaction before she turned her eyes back to the menu. she ran her finger down it, easily gliding seeing as it was laminated, quickly taking in the different ice creams. when she'd finished she looked back at rie, still with no idea of what she wanted to order. lily wasn't nervous in any way or form about their meeting, just because she had never had sex before didn't mean she hadn't been out without her mummy and daddy, she didn't need them to hold her hand. she'd been to meet strangers before. she'd even been on dates before. it was nothing major. anyway, this wasn't a date, was it? she didn't think so, and she wasn't sure if rie had hinted that it was one in their im chat earlier that day. believe you me ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ Rie laughed at the sound of ‘sir rie’ coming from Lily’s lips. He’d sure never thought he’d be any girl’s knight in shining armor. Who would’ve thought he’d be a sir to the pretty Lily? It was a funny sound. But Rie enjoyed it. ”Twenty minutes, really?” Rie was a little surprised. Twenty minutes was a bit of a walk. And not that they lived in a particularly dangerous place, but most girls he knew didn’t walk that far on their own. They went in little groups, clinging to each other as though being alone meant death- horrible, grizzly death. Hell, at school most girls he knew even went to the bathroom in groups. ”That’s a good walk right there. You must really be ready for your ice cream then.” He looked over toward the front counter. He remembered this place having waiters and waitresses for people who actually wanted to sit. When he looked back over, Lily was shivering. His mouth dropped open into an ‘o’. He felt like an idiot. It was a little windy out, looked like it might storm later actually. ”Unless you’d rather go get something else,” he laughed nervously, running his hand through his hair. ”I mean, I’d say I’d warm you up, but, you don’t know me that well yet, hah.” Rie could settle for some hot chocolate, there were coffee places around, coffee was always good. Rie heard a door swing open and closed, and his head turned to see someone was coming toward them. Awesome, they did have waitresses. He looked back at Lily and smiled. ”Totally your choice. I’ll have to get some ice cream for my sisters though… they-”Suddenly, the song My Love by Justin Timberlake roared to life, and Rie felt the vibration of his cell phone in his jean pocket. He looked down and pulled his cell phone from the worn denim. The word ‘home’ flickered in glowing letters on the screen. ”Sorry about this, it’s one of my sisters…” He let out a frustrated breath of air. What were they doing? The only phone in the house was in the kitchen. And the kitchen was NOT their room, where he’d told them all to stay. He turned his head toward the wall, away from the coming waitress. But he smiled at Lily before saying softly into the phone, ”Whitley?” The oldest sister was the only one who ever called his cell phone. ”Riiieee…” she whispered innocently. ”Whitley, you know you’re not supposed to be in the kitchen…” he lowered his voice, ”dad’ll be home any minute.””Yahh, I know… but I changed my mind.” Whitley never was very decisive. She would’ve had Rie take Hammie back for another hamster if it’d been an option. ”What are you talking about?””I want chocolate sprinkles.” Really?! ”You called about the sprinkles?!” Rie’s volume heightened with his dismay. He couldn’t believe she would leave her room for different sprinkles. She should have known better! Ugh. But… she didn’t get ice cream that often… maybe it was understandable. Not okay, but understandable. ”The chocolate sprinkles taaaste better Riiiee…” she said softly, whining. ”Don’t whine Whit, we talked about this before. I’ll get you the chocolate sprinkles. Are Tay and Bee alright?” He couldn’t get off the phone without asking. Pictures of Beatrice swinging from the fan with lampshades on her head haunted him. ”Yahh, they’re playing with my barbies.” He could tell from her tone of voice she was pouting. ”Beatrice put Kelly’s head in her mouth.” Rie rolled his eyes. ”We’ll discuss the importance of keeping barbie’s head outside of Beatrice’s mouth when I get home, okay- now I told you I was going with a friend… it’s not really nice for me to be on the phone…” He glanced at Lily again, smiling weakly. The rest of the conversation was unimportant, just your basic goodbye, and he cringed a little when Whitley said she loved him; not physically, just in his mind. What these girls did to his image was really tragic sometimes. ”Love you too Whit. Now go to your room.” Sliding his phone shut he let out a low chuckle, eyes finding their way to Lily for the millionth time. ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ post; done. tag; lily julia vargas. words; 705. graphics; squishy. lyrics; all time low. notes; mehh, yours is better than mine.
