Stand on the edge with me Hold Back your fear and seeNothing is real til it's gone A light breeze blew over the Boston Common, brushing past the blonde teenager that was standing quietly, a dog by her side. Her right hand rested lightly on the golden retrieves head, while her left hand held the handle of her guitar case. She shifted slightly, listening for the sounds of anybody else that might be currently in the large park. Satisfied that for the most part, she was alone, she walked forward, letting Retro, her dog, guide her. It wasn't on her agenda to trip over a large rock, that much was certain. Finding a spot where she was shaded from the sun, by a large tree, she set the instrument case down. With careful movements, she eased herself down, back pressed up against the tree that was providing the shade. Patting the soft grass lightly she called for Retro to come over by her. The quiet sound of paws hurrying her way, was the only thing that allowed her to know that her companion was coming. The canine laid down beside her with a soft sigh, causing a small smile to tilt up the corners of Robin's lips.
Turning more to her right, she stretched her arms out and with shaky fingers she opened up the guitar's case. Cloudy eyes brightening, she pulled out the instrument. Seeing as she didn't have the other equipment, she had decided to bring her acoustic guitar, instead of her electric. Reaching up with her other hand, she pulled off the sun glasses that had shielded her eyes. The wind caused the leaves of the trees to rustle and to Robin, it sounded calming, reassuring even. Positioning the guitar on her lap, she brushed the strings with her fingertips, listening to the quiet tones the guitar emitted. Reaching further down the neck of the guitar with her left hand, she tuned each string that needed it. Plucking each of the strings individually, she smiled with satisfaction that the instrument was no perfectly tuned. Carefully placing her nimble fingers on various strings, she strummed the guitar again. Only minutes later, her fingers danced across the different frets and strings of the guitar with practiced ease. Her blue eyes were closed and a innocent and sincere smile flitted across her light pink lips. Picking a quicker tune, she started playing it, laughing out loud with no reserve when Retro decided to join in with short barks that seemed to keep the rhythm.
Whenever she was alone, she didn't have to worry about what other people thought of her, she could just be herself. Robin was sick of being judged by others. Judged for something she couldn't even change about herself. Her fingers stilled and the cheerful music ceased, leaving the air surrounding her strangely silent. It wasn't long before she heard a slightly whine and felt a wet nose nudging her bare arm. Chuckling she reached down and patted the dog's head. She leaned back against the tree again, tilting her head up to better feel the wind on her face, causing the only loose strand of her hair to sway in the breeze. Reaching up, she tugged the ponytail holder out of her hair, allowing it to fall down, fanning across her shoulders and slightly covering the front of her white tank top. She slid the ponytail holder into the right pocket of her faded blue jeans. Easily, her hands found their way back onto the guitar, playing a softer more soothing melody. no captain yet
believe you me ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ Rie hadn’t had to walk far before he found Robin. But he did have to wait a while before he could go over and sit down beside her. Nerves. He had them something terrible today, really, and he honestly couldn’t figure out why. He was usually such a smooth son of a, well… y’know. He kept having to stop himself, when he cursed, remind himself that if he kept it up, his sisters would catch on to it soon, and that just killed him, when he heard any of them cuss. It would kill him, if they made a habit out of it. Especially ‘cause of him. So, anyway, Rie stood behind a tree, and just got himself together for a minute. Not that he needed to hide. The girl was blind for crying out loud; but still, she could probably have heard him coming. Who knew, maybe she heard him chicken out and walk behind the tree while he was still a good twenty feet away. Maybe she had hearing that good. He checked his breath, even though he had absolutely no expectation that that would be necessary. He had the same idea going in his head that he’d had in the lunch room; even though he’d thought he’d decided back there, he later decided that he hadn’t. Confusing? You don’t even know the half of it. Life was so freaking confusing. Freaking. That was a bit better. Girls. They made it even worse. Rie just didn’t know when to control himself sometimes. Sometimes they drove him absolutely mad, looking the way they did, and not letting him near them. Sometimes he wished they’d back off, even the good-looking ones, the ones that only wanted to be near someone. Even crummy him. He did think he was pretty crummy. And most other people thought so too. His father, for one, for sure. His father thought he was a regular class A ass-hole. Which was ironic. ‘Cause his father was the biggest ass-hole around. He was the ass-hole of all ass-holes. Damn. That cursing thing was real hard. Rie sucked his teeth; he felt something stuck, a piece of something. He picked it out with his pinky, flung it across the yard. Disgusting. He meant his father. Manning up, with no decision really lucidly made about this Robin girl, though, Rie strode forward, up to where she sat and he sat his own crummy ass down beside her. He’d been so into his own thoughts, y’know, that he almost hadn’t noticed her playing her music. Which seemed pretty crucial, not noticing something like that. Almost criminal. It just made him feel crummier, really. He waited for her to be finished, not wanting to interrupt anything. He looked at her, watched her face as she played, and thought she looked really happy, and it reminded him of his mother, when she had a container ice cream in front of her on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and a good movie was on. His mother loved ice cream and movies. And when she took her hair out, he was kind of blown away. Didn’t really know why; the girl was a knockout with her hair pulled back, really, he thought. And then he thought about whether he should be thinking that. But he just thought he didn’t give a damn. And then he thought he shouldn’t think that. Damn. He was so freaking confusing sometimes. ”I think I could just sit here all day and listen to that,” he said, sort of absent-mindedly, leaning back against the tree, one arm resting on his upward-drawn knee, and his other leg extended into the grass. He watched her face, sort of entranced by her eyes. She really had real special eyes. And not just because she was blind, he thought. He really wished she could see him. ”Are you making it up? It's real nice."☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ ☰ post; done. tag; robin courtney james. words; 642. graphics; squiishy. lyrics; all time low. notes; agh. i took forever too. D: sorry!!

Stand on the edge with me Hold Back your fear and seeNothing is real til it's gone The soft music coming from the guitar covered up the quiet sounds that Rie made, from behind the tree. Robin's eyes were closed, not that it made a difference, as she jumped headfirst into her music. This was her life, it was what she lived for. And she wanted nothing more than to do this for the rest of her life. What else could satisfy her the way that her music did? With an innocent smile on her lips, she turned her head in the direction of the barks coming from Retro. He always liked to join in when she was playing her guitar, it made her laugh every time. He never failed to brighten her mood whenever she was down. Nothing could drag her down right now. She tilted her head back down, where it was hanging down towards the acoustic guitar. Her blonde hair fell on the body of the guitar as she played. Her calloused fingers pressed the strings of the instrument, her right hand strumming them, each chord emitted, striking perfection.
Robin hadn't exactly fit into life here in Boston. She was struggling with each passing day. Even if she couldn't see the judgmental glances, she could feel them. As much as she hated it, she tried. She tried to make friends, get to know people. Yet, not many people had stuck around. In fact, the only person that had, was a guy she'd met in the lunch room, Rie. She hadn't seen him since then though. For the record, she was just plain sick and tired of dealing with the way people acted towards her. Acting like she was a little kid and couldn't understand them. She was blind, not dumb! Her eyes narrowed in annoyance, but she shook it off. She was fine here. No one was around. She was perfectly alone. This was exactly why she had come out here.
She continued playing, a softer melody this time. She leaned back once again, so that her back was pressed up against the bark of the tree. In some respects, she wasn't really paying attention. Normally, she would be on the lookout, in a sense, for someone approaching, so she could stop playing her guitar. It was a private thing for her. It was true, she wanted to become a professional singer and musician, but for now, she kept it more to herself and her family. And her friends, should anyone ever choose to stick around and see if she was actually worth it.
The teenager completely missed the approaching footfalls of Rie. Retro's ears perked up, and he watched Rie, tail thumping in a casual hello. However, having determined that Rie wasn't a threat, he felt no need to inform Robin that she now had company. Retro, for some reason, though he was an excellent seeing eye dog, whenever Rie approached, never let Robin know about it. So, as usual, she kept in the dark. No pun intended.
Robin continued to play her guitar, quite unaware of the fact that Rie was sitting beside her. In normal circumstances, she would've realized immediately, even without Retro alerting her. However, the music masked the sound of his movements, allowing her to continued playing. Ignorance is bliss, or so the saying goes.
When he spoke, she immediately stopped playing, frozen, unseeing blue eyes widened like a deer in the headlights of an approaching car. She soon placed his voice and her rigid posture relaxed. An almost naively trusting expression appeared on her face. She turned her head in the direction of his voice, her eyes still unable to focus on him. "Not making it up, not really. Not now anyway, I made it up a while back..." She started slowly, wanting to for once, be bold, and just give him a hug. She was just happy to hear a friendly voice. She set her guitar to the side, on top of its case. She turned towards Rie, unsure of how close he was really sitting. "How've been? Kind of been a while." She asked.
