it’s one long winded name but usually we’ll just stick with hartley institute. as to it’s whereabouts, you really think they’re going to tell you shit like that? you’ve grown up hearing the horror stories, the kid next door who skinned his momma alive got sent there, murder happens on a daily basis and once you get sent there, you can say goodbye to freedom. these are just rumours though, nobody knows where all the naughty boys and girls go, for all you know it could be a paradise but those who have to survive there view it in a very different light. surrounded by miles of water this island inhabits thick forest, a diverse selection of wildlife and the worlds most feared teenagers.
don’t think you have to become a mass murder to get here though, oh no child you would be sadly mistaken. judges may globally use this place as a drop of point for those they cannot control but hartley houses a colourful spectrum of inmates. the orphaned, the homeless, the troublesome, if you have no place to go, nobody who wants you then Hartley accepts you with open arms. you however will probably be taken kicking and screaming. those horror stories your big brother used to scare you with are all about to come true, out of any jurisdiction Hartley has a law of it’s own. controversially testing new methods of treating it’s inmates, if you weren’t insane before you entered you’re most certainly going to be by the end of your stay.
shock therapy, frequent beatings and even the odd case of sexual molestation. you really think the staff are going to like you? it’s your fault they have to live on this godforsaken island with no source of sanity to keep them happy. they’ll turn on you, beat you within an inch of your life if you put a foot wrong but they’re also your greatest resource. alliances with staff are hard to come pay but have incredible pay off, you want someone locked up in isolation or even knocked off? they’re the people to find but then again don’t search in the wrong area, some of the therapists and doctors actually want to see their inmates improve, they’re naïve enough to believe they can make a difference with a friendly tone and colourful pills.
